02 Jun WEEK IN THE LIFE – MINI DAILY FILMS – LOCKDOWN IN MAY
I like to join in each time the Handmade Film Making course runs, but I was concerned about the latest session in May because we were still in lockdown and I’d already made films in March and April while Staying Home. I wasn’t sure I could do it again, I’d been feeling like everyday was the same and creatively this is a challenge, especially for someone like me who’s constantly documenting their day.
I often look for different ways to shoot the same things, pushing myself to find new angles and compositions of the same set ups. But what if flipped that and purposely shot the same things everyday. Could this be a way to really represent this time during lockdown?
So instead of pushing myself to try and shoot each day differently. I stepped into the repetition and embraced it. Shoot the same things, in a similar way, every day.
Surprisingly, before this week I’d felt like everyday was Groundhog Day but actually there are unique daily moments that fly under the radar because I’d been so focused on it always being the same…
This set of films will always remind me of lockdown 2020, where the days merged into one but sprinkled throughout there were special moments.
If you feel inspired to start making videos and documenting life right now, using your phone. The Handmade Film Making course will run again in July, so come and join in, if you can. (There’s also a self-paced session if you can’t wait till then.)
