04 Nov UPLOAD YOUR VIDEO TO IGTV AND REELS
With Instagram giving us more options than ever of where to share our videos… I thought I’d share the details about my current two favourite places to upload – IGTV and REELS.
I’ll do a future post with my personal preferences and why I like both of these options, but for now here are all the details you need when deciding where to upload your film.
IGTV gives us the ability to share long-form videos. Your video will need to be shot and edited in an external app.
Video length can be between 60 seconds – 15 mins. You can upload your video in horizontal 16:9 – when you rotate your phone, the video will show in full frame. Or vertical 9:16, although the 15 second preview in the grid is 4:5 crop, so ideally people need to click through to see the full 9:16.
The video will auto play once. When playing in the full 9:16 crop, you have the ability to pause, rewind and forward with a scrub bar. Or double tap on the edge of the screen to jump forward/backwards 10 secs.
.
REELS gives us the ability to share 9:16 vertical format short form video. (Although the preview in the grid is 4:5 crop, so ideally people need to click through to see the full 9:16.)
Your video length can be between 3 – 30 seconds long. You can shoot and edit directly in Reels, your videos can be one shot/one take clips or multiple clips edited to together within the app. Or you can edit in an external app and upload from the camera roll.
You can add music when uploading. The library has a large collection of popular tracks. You can upload with your own music or audio as well. There isn’t the ability to include your own audio AND music… yet. But hopefully that will come in a future update, as it would then be possible to include a voiceover and music of your choice.
The video will play on a loop, repeating over and over. You have the ability to pause when playing in the full 9:16 crop.
Let me know where you’re uploading your videos and if you’ve got any questions…
