“Make Mini Movies in May” is an invitation to create a collection of videos during the month of May.

I love a project/challenge. I’m planning to make “Scenes From The Weekend” videos in May. I’ve missed creating them, and now that life here is starting to open up, there might be more opportunities to do fun things to make my videos more interesting… because I’m done with shooting at home! (I’ll also make a few “Day In The Life” films as part of the Handmade Film Making course starting on May 6th)

I thought you might like to join me… Let’s get capturing moments on video this May, to make into memory films to have forever.

Here are some suggestions of what you can create –

1 – Making a “Scenes From The Weekend” video at some point during the month or push yourself to shoot something for every weekend. Even a 30 second Reel of snippets could be fun.

2 – Shooting one “Day In The Life” or a few of them at different points during the month. Or you could join in during the Handmade Film Making course week between – 8th – 14th May.

3 – Gather a collection of clips each day throughout the month, to put into a “31 days in May” compilation video – Just like my Memory Postcards films.

4 – A mini adventure – Make a video of an activity you’re doing. Could be a day trip to the park? A cup of coffee with a friend? or a day trip exploring somewhere new?

5 – A video portrait of yourself, sharing things you like to do or a portrait of someone else – your family, children or a friend.

6 – Create video around a theme – the seasons, the senses, your home, favourite places, traditions, colours, super 8mm… etc

7 – Or a mix of any of the above or feel free to come up with your own ideas of what videos to make. It’s up to you!

Throughout the month, I’ll share some inspiration from films I’ve made over the years, plus offering tips and ideas of how to approach making your videos and things to think about while shooting or editing. Follow along here, and join us over on @createvideoswithxanthe for more details. Do share your videos on my course hashtag #createvideoswithxanthe over on Instagram.

And if you’d like more guidance to shoot and edit your videos, check out my online courses. Handmade Film Making starts on May 6th, and it has everything you need to get started to make videos on your phone.

Please note – this is a personal project for me. I’m opening up to anyone who’d like to join the challenge because I know how making a commitment to create, and having accountability with others can be powerful. I won’t be directly teaching or offering tutorials, just inspiration and encouragement. If you’d like more guidance, do check out my online courses.

Let me know if you’re up for the challenge and what “Mini Movies” you might make during May… or you have any questions.

If you’d like more guidance to start making your own videos – check out my online courses where I share everything you need to get started and inspiration to take you through the whole process and find the love of making films!
