FAQ – DO I NEED THE LATEST PHONE TO TAKE PART IN HANDMADE FILM MAKING?

“I only have a hand-me down iPhone 8, could I still participate in your Handmade Film Making course or do I need the latest model of phone?

I’m a big believer in using the equipment you have already when starting out creating with video.

I’ve shot plenty of videos over the years on an iPhone 6 and then iPhone 8. Initially, it’s about focusing on how to capture what’s happening in front of the camera – which shots to use to compose your scene and the different techniques you can experiment with. Plus, training yourself to look for movement to video and anticipating what moments to film. You’ll start seeing your world in a whole new way!.

Of course, there will be a difference in the quality/resolution of the video between an older version of iPhone and the iPhone 11pro but this shouldn’t stop you, because it’s about the moments and memories you want to capture.

So don’t worry about needing the latest iPhone yet, if you get into creating videos regularly and start to feel you’re being held back by the limitations of an older phone, then you can look at upgrading.

Within the course, I share videos and demos that have been made on both iPhone 8 and iPhone 11pro, so there’s plenty of inspiration.

The only issue that sometimes arises with an older phone is the storage space. Video clips and editing apps do take up a lot of space, so it’s worth backing up or deleting things you don’t need to clear some space on your phone before you start the course. Just so you’re free to shoot and edit with ease.

Hope that helps… and you join Handmade Film Making soon.
