17 Nov A TIME CAPSULE FILM FROM FOUR YEARS AGO
This was the film where I came up with the Time Capsule film concept – the idea that you spend a day (or any timeframe as the concept has evolved) capturing the details of your amazing ordinary life, to then lock away in a film to watch in years to come – this was from Nov 2011 – only 4 years ago (Oops! I was meant to share this on 11.11) but SO SO SO much has changed.
Different house, different everyday life, different boys – luckily Luke is still pretty much the same, phew! and the cats are still the first thing I see every morning, although they are much larger!
This film is one of my favourites and even though parts of it I would shoot it differently now, as my style and experience has developed… there is so much that I would do exactly the same. Essentially it’s all about the memories! and this is packed with them.
Mornings now look like this… (SO grown up – insert emoji crying face)
When people take my Creating Time Capsules course – I try to encourage seeking out your future memories. Yes, you’ve got to think about framing, music choices and editing techniques when making these films – but it’s also about being a memory gatherer and story teller.
One of the elements in my courses is where I share a ‘behind the scenes’ look at films – a voice over sharing my thoughts – I believe this little insight can really inspire people, as they can understand why I shot things in a certain way or why I included particular pieces of footage to tell my story.
I’ve dipped into the archives to share this voice over for the 11.11.11 film – (please excuse me as this was one of the first ever voice-overs I created… I believe I’m bit better at them now with certainly less ums! – doesn’t Vimeo look SO different?)
During 2015 I’ve been leading a year long version of the original course – A Year of Creating Time Capsules and every month I’ve shared a behind the scenes look at my current film – I will be including more of these in the next course for 2016. Seeing the editing process of each film, can help and inspire with creating…
Registration opens soon – this week in fact… stay tuned!…. and if a year long course seems like too big a commitment but you’d still like to try a little film making – a new course is being created. All will be revealed very SOON!
(Another morning shot just because….)
