DIRECTION

with one comment

I took these yesterday, firstly for the NOWYOU workshop but also because I felt I was moving in all sorts of directions… unsure which way go.

Today as a few creative plans have fallen into place, it feels clearer and even exciting. What a difference a day makes.

IN THE SUNSHINE

with 4 comments

It has rained here pretty much for two weeks solid. Quite frankly I’d had enough. Luckily today the sun showed up and stayed around. Woo hoo!

I’m taking part in the NOW YOU workshops and part of this week is all about feeling grounded… I love to take feet shots, and now I have an excuse to spend all week doing it…

THE LAST NIGHT

with one comment

The last night at campshuttersisters was togetherness through creativity.

Everyone sharing and printing their photos, filling their journals in a beautiful space and hosted by HP who graciously sponsored this camp and over 1500 photos were printed. I even got to print direct from my iphone!. Some people hadn’t printed their photos in years and we were able to hold them in our hands and share them with each other.

A DREAM COME TRUE

with 2 comments

I’m about to do something huge,

something so out of my comfort zone it scares every ounce of my body,

thankfully, it’s also something so exciting i could burst and I feel so lucky to be doing it, that it feels like a dream.

I’m flying off to California today… to spend two nights with the incredible Leslie, stand on her happy landing and take blurry feet photos. Then four nights meeting some kindred spirits and hanging out here. Woo hoo!

It just goes to show if you do wish hard enough, dreams do come true.

I’ll be uploading my adventures on Instagram (xantheb) and may pop by here if I can.

See you on the other side, with many many photographs and tales from this crazy good epic journney I’m about to have.

I don’t think summer ever really arrived, there has been so much rain this August. I feel cheated so I’ve been searching the archives for some glow.

This was a rare moment of sun whilst camping a few weeks ago.

Be kind Autumn, as I’m feeling rather fragile.

My self portrait journey continues…..

After 4 days without all my boys, I’m ready for them to come home. I’ve enjoyed the quiet, being able to work and then laze in bed with movies and magazines on my own…. I haven’t done that in years.

They will be back this evening, can’t wait for the hugs….

Here’s one of my new favourite photos, totally inspired by my love of this shot.

SELF PORTRAIT PROJECT

with 24 comments

SO I’ve reached the end of my 52 photos SP challenge…. it’s been quite a journey….

I’ve talked about the importance of self portraits before. Sometimes it’s a struggle to not come across as vain, but instead I like to acknowledge this journey as learning about who you are and how you see yourself.

But more importantly I know it’s helped me grow as a portrait photographer, in terms of composition, light, location and subject matter. Thankfully it’s also enabled me to have a collection of photos to look back on with some wonderful memories.

So I thought I’d share some of my techniques….

The urge to take a SP is either sparked by a location, so the light or the space may be gorgeous and that is my prompt. Or I may want to record a moment or a feeling that is worth acknowledging or remembering.

I either use reflective surfaces or hold the camera at arms length….

….but mostly I use the self timer, sometimes with a tripod and it’s only recently I have started to use a remote control, (boy has this made it easier!,) although I still find “jump” shots much easier with the self timer.

To set the shot up, find the composition I want and where I will be in the frame, then find my focal point and set my focus there. I move into the shot and click away. Sometimes magic happens and you get it first time, other times it’s a disaster and rethink happens. Mostly it works after a couple of takes, either I get what I picture in my head or an accidental surprise happens. Something interesting is always created.

Now I know it’s important to keep shooting myself, especially when I spend so much time behind the camera, so even though this set of 52/52 SP project is done, I will carry on the SP mission…. how do you find capturing yourself?
