We’re back… Mexico was ace in SO many ways… and slowly over a few blog posts here & on the First Choice blog, I’ll share some of the adventures.
I’m just beginning to sift through footage and images from my Canon DSLR. So let’s start with iPhone images…
The colours… oh the colours of Mexico. They did not disappoint. Everywhere was colour, I was in heaven. Greedily, I want more, this just felt like a taste of what Mexico & South America has to offer and hope we can make it back there soon, to bask in the colours I love to shoot.
The colour in abundance was BLUE… it was everywhere… surrounding us in the sea & the sky… and of course, in the pool at the hotel.
Oh BLUE… you are delight! – There’s plenty more colour & sunshine to come…
Now for a giveaway!
As promised before I left. Let’s do a giveaway - The offer is for TWO places to take part – Double the chance to win!. All you need to do is leave a comment and I’ll pick a couple of random comments on Friday 6th June.
Now, before I go… let me share possibly my favourite clip from the trip… It’s short & it’s imperfect. Shot on the fly on the iPhone, the focus is off as there was no time to set this shot up, it was totally spur of moment.
But I love it!
It sums up Cosmo at this moment in his life. You see, Cosmo is never without cards, constantly doing tricks on anyone who’ll give him attention.
During our visit to Las Caletas, he fell in love with this Macaw… and wanted him to become part his act… we were totally surprised by what happened!
All photos & video shot on the iPhone 5s.
I asked Irene ”where can I find some colour in Paris?” and she looked at me and said “it’s not like London here”…
You see, as I’m sure you know, I love looking for colour and I was determined to find some in Paris…
and this is what I found.
Sometimes you have to celebrate the start of March with a little nonsense stop-motion… Playing just for the fun of it.
High fives!… roll on March, you’re going to be amazing! Yip YIP!!
So even though I felt I’d completed my project Making My Own Colour… it’s amazing how it’s become such a part of my everyday life now, after 30 days of intensively searching and creating it… Colour is still happening… I’m still searching & finding it in unlikely places, and making it happen!
Maybe this isn’t just a 30 day project? Maybe it’s calling to be something bigger… let’s see how it unfolds…
I began this 30 day challenge back in the middle of January, for a couple of reasons…
It was a project that I was encouraging participants of my course - A JOURNEY to take on. If you practice something for 30 days in a row – like photography or video… you grow, you get better, you can see themes in your work, you have a chance to try new techiniques, you can JUST PLAY. Play and experiment, till you find out what works for you.
I also picked a theme to shoot towards… Colour… it’s cold and grey for most of Jan and Feb here in the UK, so I wanted to actively search for or intentionally make colour happen, to lift my spirits and bring a little brightness into our lives till Spring arrives.
It was magic… and this is what happened…
I’ve completed my 30 day challenge of shooting everyday, with the theme of “Making My Own Colour” – a personal project as part of my A JOURNEY course and to get me through the winter blahs. I asked JOURNEY participants to take up the 30 day challenge, so it seemed only right that I took it on too, so I started a little before the course began in mid Jan, and so far I’ve shared colour sprinkled here and there.
Here are some of my favourite photos and the film is coming later in the week, as I’m just putting the final touches to it, before I share it with those on my course.
This project and abundance through colour has helped SO much both creatively and emotionally (even got me through the dreadful cold that’s lasted for weeks!)… I’m bursting and so ready for spring and all the other colour I will be exploring this year… bring it on!
“Do you want to come and help me shoot some ribbons, in the wind, while the sun is still out?” I asked him hesitantly… it was windy and pretty chilly outside, I never thought he would agree.
Surprisingly he said “Yes” and then loved the magic made in the back of the camera almost as much as I did…
I have enough ‘ribbons and blue sky’ shots to last a lifetime now… these are some of my favourites…
Apart from the random blue sky and sunshine dotted in now and again, January & February are pretty grey, dull and cold around here… plenty of bare branches, muted tones, rain and bland skies pretty regularly.
I’ve been missing the regular vibrancy I typically love. So for the past couple of weeks, as part of a film I’d like to make for my course A JOURNEY, I’ve been making colour happen, wearing colour or capturing colour daily. It’s been fun, and certainly lifts the spirits and I hope to carry on capturing till spring arrives and colour resumes it’s happy place in abundance.
A “friend” can come in many forms… this time is was a little blue balloon.
So the balloon came with us to the park…
This boy. His balloon. His joy for life. His beaming light & colours. Make me SO happy!
But eventually this happened…
This boy is magic… and there is a heart there, and this doesn’t surprise me one little bit.
