A WEEK OF MINI DAY IN THE LIFE FILMS

without comments

The Day In The Life project is one of my favourite Time Capsule films to create… (closely followed by my Scenes From The Weekend films.)

But it’s been a while since I’ve made the mini daily versions - May 2016 & March 2016 & Sept 2015 & May 2015

Last year flew by so quickly… I’d planned to do one week in the autumn, but ended up doing 30 days of films instead.

So here we are in spring 2017 and I knew I needed to get on it!

We are in a different house now and the boys are growing up faster than I can imagine. My work life is so varied from week to week… I’d like this some of this to be documented. But it was finding the energy to get going.

You see, this project takes commitment and extra time.

But I know, I’ve just got to start… because once I’m in the zone of creating… the benefits shine and the momentum of finishing each film keeps me going.

So my week is complete… seven days, seven films full of little snippets from the day. I love them. I love seeing the differences and the similarities to last year and the year before – it’s such a gift. Even though I had to stay up late editing and annoy my family by filming every day… and find different ways of documenting, yet another cup of tea being made.

I think it was worth it.

Now this is over, I can get on with #hurrayforplay!

Perhaps these mini films have inspired you to have a go at creating your own Day In The Life film…

If you’d like any help, inspiration or guidance… consider taking one of my online courses – My MAKE FILMS course starts on May 16th and we spend a whole week dedicated to this project.

All the details are HERE.

All films shot on a mix of Canon 5d4, iPhone 6s and Canon G7x

MINI TIME CAPSULES – DAY IN THE LIFE FILMS

with one comment

My favourite film to look back on is the one packed with the everyday details.

As the years seems to whizz by faster and faster… these films are full of reminders of our daily life.

Creating a Day In The Life film gives you the opportunity to notice the details of your routine and the ordinary things… and then capture those mundane things, to make them beautiful.

These are the little things I notice, the things I want to remember. I’m telling a story for my future self.

And I know I’m going to love what ever details I put in the frame because they are fleeting. I know this to be true by watching back Day In The Life films I’ve made over the years.

Each film is a gift. A gift to my future self.

Last week in the MAKE FILMS course I encouraged people to create a Day In The Life film… even one mini film like these. In my current Bloom Forum course… people are documenting their lives so beautifully… and tomorrow my Creating Time Capsules course starts and the DITL film is one of the best Time Capsules films you can ever make.

These films take effort. I don’t promise it’s quick & easy, but I do promise you will love what ever you create.

Hope these mini ones have inspired you to have a go at creating your own Day In The Life film…

If you’d like any help, inspiration or guidance… consider taking one of my online courses - Creating Time Capsules starts on Friday or MAKE FILMS on 22nd March.

Check out this blog post to hear about both courses.

These films are shot on Canon 5D3, Canon G7x and iPhone 6s

I love documenting our everyday lives…

One of my favourite Time Capsule films is the “Day In The Life” film – I love how these everyday scenes can tell such a wonderful story of your life as it is, right at this moment.

Then slowly over time things change, so it’s great to have these stories available to enjoy in the future.

I’ll be hosting my “Day In The Life Time Capsule” online course over at Bloom Forum - the workshop starts on Monday 31st and runs for 3 weeks.

The focus will be sharing the whole process to create your own DITL film – from shooting your day to editing it together – It’s going to be wonderful to concentrate on the magic of this kind of film.

(Some of the materials will be from my original Time Capsules course, so if you have any questions about taking part – just email me or leave a comment)

You can find all the details over HERE (You will need to be a member of the Bloom Forum to take part)

A LAZY DAY – A NEW TIME CAPSULE FILM

without comments

Sometimes you just need a quiet day at home to recharge.

During the last month, my weekends have been packed with work and birthday celebrations. I was feeling so tired. So when the sun shone on Saturday and the boys were in & out with their own social lives, I lazed in the garden and daydreamed… gazing at the leaves and the flowers dancing in the wind.

Just what I needed before the crazy couple of weeks ahead.

It’s end of term for the boys and end of an era, as primary school is over for us….

Plus an exciting project to launch – stay tuned!

If you’d like to try to create your own Time Capsule films – either a mini one for Instagram or perhaps longer ones like this one – check out my online courses… all the details are HERE>>>>

HALFWAY THROUGH A YEAR OF CREATING TIME CAPSULES

with one comment

It’s June! this year is flying… which is good, as it’s been packed with lots going on, but I’m also finding myself continually trying to catch up.

The one thing that’s constant, is the commitment I made alongside everyone taking my A Year of Creating Time Capsules course – to create at least one film a month in 2015.

So far so good. Phew! In fact this year has been full of all kinds of films – from Day In The Life films, stories of adventures and lots of mini Time Capsules being shared on Instagram…. and I’m loving the creativity flow.

I started in December with this -

Into January with a film about our Christmas -

February was the hardest month to find inspiration -

March gave us this -

First camping trip in April -

And May had me capturing our days in mini films - See the other days from that week HERE.

Watching all these 2015 films back is a joy… little memories locked away – a true Time Capsule. I can’t wait to see what the next six months brings for me and for those taking the year long course – So far nearly 350 films have been made, which blows my mind!!

If you’d like to learn how to make films like this – I share everything I know in these online courses -

CREATING TIME CAPSULES – where I share step-by-step instructions and loads of inspiration, so you can create your own films to treasure (Register now – Starts 2nd June)

MINI TIME CAPSULES – A mini course to make 15 second films on Instagram (Register now - Anytime access)

Hopefully you’d like to create your own piece of magic in a Time Capsule film.

DAY IN THE LIFE MINI CAPSULE FILMS

with one comment

If you’ve been following my work for a while now, you’ll know my favourite Time Capsule film to create is the ‘Day In The Life’ film. Having made them for years now, I treasure each one for the story it holds.

Currently my new course is running over at The Bloom Forum and if I can, I like to take part alongside everyone, but I was feeling like approaching this ‘Day In The Life’ project a little differently.

So instead of one longer film on just one day… I thought it would be a good challenge for me to collect snippets of footage each day for a whole week! and create a daily 15 second film to post on Instagram.

Could I capture a real look at life in such a short film?

For the whole week I shot details of my day and in the evening edited it together… even though these films are pretty short – each second is a memory trigger and full of the emotion or events of the day.

I really enjoyed it!

(These films were originally posted on Instagram, but for this blog post they’ve been re-edited to add titles and some additional footage)

Along with so much wonderful support on Instagram, I was also asked lots of questions – so I’m putting together a mini online course sharing how you can create these films too!

All the details for MINI Time Capsules are over HERE. I’m so excited to share how simple, easy and fun these are to make – Head on over as registration opens soon.

All the films were shot on Canon EOS 5DIII & iPhone 5s.

DAY IN THE LIFE – CAMPING

with 8 comments

When the first camp of the season is planned… I’m a little reluctant as it’s often quite chilly at night. I’m still scared from a very cold May Bank Holiday camp a few years ago, where we were all woken in the night so cold, with no way of warming up!

We’re better prepared now… Blankets a plenty, thermals, hot water bottles and huddling together.

All the boys are so eager to get the tent out for its first adventure, I get swept up in their excitement and pack my woolly hat and scarves.

As it happens the weather was glorious! Blessed with beautiful sunny days allowing pockets of lazing around… Campfire cooking & a successful mission of making bows and arrows.

Good times… can’t wait for the next camping adventure.

If you’re interested in creating your own Day In The Life films –

Check out my new course over at The Bloom Forum… the course starts in a couple weeks.
